Continuing our rice bag collection with the Palila bird. This sweetiepie is pictured resting on the Māmane tree, it’s favorite source of food.
Interestingly enough, the Palila and the Māmane tree are both endemic to Hawai’i, meaning they cannot be found anywhere else. The more Māmane trees you see, the more Palila you will find.
Like many native birds, the Palila population is critically endangered. They can only be found in the southwestern forests of Mauna Kea.
