Our newest rice bag bird the 'Ākepa
This Hawaiian honeycreeper can be found on Hawaiʻi Island in ʻōhiʻa forests above 1300 meters. The male birds are a bright red orange color while the females are grayish green with a yellow breast band. The ʻĀkepa feed mainly on ʻōhiʻa lehua and acaica koa. Like many endemic birds to Hawaiʻi, the ʻĀkepa is endangered.
